Chris Leahy – Principal – Leahy Lawyers Glen Innes Solicitors
Born and raised in Papua New Guinea, Chris attended boarding school in Sydney for 8 years then attended the Australian National University in Canberra where he graduated in Arts and Law.
After graduating Chris was admitted as a solicitor in the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales. He then moved to Sydney where he worked for one of the country’s largest law firms for nearly 3 years. He worked mainly in the property and financial areas as a transactional lawyer.
After nearly 3 years of legal employment, Chris spent a year conducting camping tours through Europe, Scandinavia and North Africa.
On returning to Sydney Chris married Marg Diery, who is a garden designer and horticulturalist. They have three adult children.
Chris became a barrister in 1978. He was a barrister for 33 years – the last 10 years as Senior Counsel (previously called Queen’s Counsel). As a barrister Chris appeared mainly as a trial advocate representing litigants in a range of legal disputes including estates and wills, crime, environmental and local government and commercial work.
Chris and Marg moved to Glen Innes 9 years ago. He then switched from barrister to solicitor but continued to represent people in court, advising on and resolving disputes and providing general legal advice while working for a local firm. He also prepared wills, powers of attorney and appointments of enduring guardians.
He established himself in Glen Innes where he became a popular advocate in all courts. He represented clients competently with a firm focus on securing an acceptable result either in court or through negotiation.
In July 2020 Chris established Leahy Lawyers in Glen Innes. We provide court representation and general legal advice throughout the New England region in criminal and traffic matters, wills and estates, business and commercial disputes and local government and environmental issues. We also prepare wills, powers of attorney and appointments of enduring guardians.
Chris is happy to meet with you at a location nominated by you, at his office in Glen Innes or by telephone or audio visual connection. Fees are negotiable.
